Anthony DeVito: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Anthony DeVito?
Anthony DeVito is originally from New Jersey and is now based in New York City — a fourth-generation Brooklynite by background. He started doing stand-up as a teenager and built his following steadily in the New York club scene. He was selected as a New Face at Just for Laughs Montreal in 2012. He won the Caroline’s March Madness competition in 2015.
He made his network television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2017. His stand-up has been featured on Comedy Central’s Adam Devine’s House Party, AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live, Seeso’s New York’s Funniest, Comedy Central’s The Half Hour, and Comedy Central’s This Week at the Comedy Cellar. He appeared on HBO’s Pause with Sam Jay and TV Land’s The Jim Gaffigan Show. He has told a story on NPR’s This American Life. He was a staff writer for Netflix’s The Break with Michelle Wolf and contributed to Michelle Wolf’s 2018 White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech. He co-wrote and was a regular panelist on MSG’s People Talking Sports and Other Stuff with Sam Morril. He released his debut comedy album Dream Occupation on Comedy Central Records. His debut comedy special Brain Noise was released independently in 2022. His latest special Straight Hoopin is available on YouTube. He also performed his critically acclaimed one-man show My Dad Isn’t Danny DeVito at the New York Comedy Festival — a show that explores his New Jersey Italian-American background and the persistent confusion about whether he is related to the actor.
Anthony DeVito’s Comedy Style
DeVito is a precise, self-deprecating, observational comedian whose material is rooted in his New Jersey background, family dynamics, and the specific texture of being a working-class New Yorker navigating the comedy world. The This American Life appearance and the one-man show reflect a storytelling dimension that sits alongside the club-ready punchline work — he is comfortable in both modes and uses each to feed the other.
