Brian Moses: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Brian Moses?
Brian Moses is a comedian, writer, actor, host, and producer originally from Ridgecrest, California, whose parents worked for the Navy and the Department of Defense. He credits Chris Rock’s 1996 HBO special Bring the Pain as the first comedy performance he ever saw. He is best known as the creator of Roast Battle — the competitive insult comedy format he launched in the Belly Room of the Comedy Store in Los Angeles in 2013, which has since grown into a global institution.
Roast Battle became Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle on Comedy Central, where Moses served as executive producer and host. He also serves as executive producer and host for Comedy Central UK’s Roast Battle. The Roast Battle League now operates in 24 cities worldwide and continues to expand. Moses hosts Roast Battle live every Tuesday night at 10:30 PM in the Belly Room at the Comedy Store, where it remains one of the most-attended weekly shows in Los Angeles comedy. He co-hosts the weekly RBL Weekly podcast with Commissioner Pat Barker. He is a regular guest on The Joe Rogan Experience and Kill Tony. He worked as a writing producer on Netflix’s Sex: Unzipped and The Jonas Brothers Family Roast. He wrote for Freeform’s Truth & Iliza and MTV’s Wild ‘N Out. He guest-starred on HBO’s Crashing and Comedy Central’s Corporate. He co-created and starred in the sketch series Void for Comedy Central Digital. He appeared on @midnight. He has an album produced by hip-hop legend Madlib. He opened for Sarah Silverman, Bill Burr, and Cheech & Chong.
Brian Moses’s Comedy Style
Moses is the architect of a format as much as he is a performer — Roast Battle required someone who could write vicious jokes, withstand vicious jokes, and host a room where the energy can tip in any direction at any moment. His stand-up reflects all of that: direct, dark, built on genuine aggression that is controlled by craft. The Madlib collaboration signals the hip-hop sensibility that runs through his work — someone who thinks in terms of density, flow, and punchlines per line.
