Brian Scolaro: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch

Who is Brian Scolaro?

Brian Scolaro was born on October 18, 1973, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, to Anthony and Irene Scolaro. At the State University of New Paltz, he wrote, produced, and hosted a radio comedy program on WFNP FM for three years. He worked with the mentally handicapped at the Guild for Exceptional Children in Brooklyn for years before transitioning into comedy. After a brief stint as a production assistant for HBO and Comedy Central, he did his first stand-up show at Stand Up NY in 1992, became a Comedy Cellar regular, and appeared at Just for Laughs Montreal in the New Faces Show in 1999.

He taped a Comedy Central half-hour special Comedy Central Presents: Brian Scolaro in 2009. He appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Conan, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. His television acting credits span over two decades and include recurring roles as Stuart on FOX’s Stacked (opposite Pamela Anderson and Christopher Lloyd), Gordon on NBC’s Three Sisters, Doug on TBS’s Sullivan and Son, Uncle Bill on HBO’s Ten Year Old Tom, Brian the lawyer on ABC’s A Million Little Things, and the paranormal Goblin on Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place. Guest roles include Mad Men, Dexter, Grey’s Anatomy, Shameless, Abbott Elementary, Night Court, Boardwalk Empire, Kroll Show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and the HBO series The Life and Times of Tim. In 2025, he played Paul Castellano in Barry Levinson’s Warner Bros. crime drama Alto Knights starring Robert De Niro. He has three comedy albums: Sneezes, Farts, and Orgasms (2011), Live at the Comedy Castle (2014), and Stupid Time (2017). He is the author of the comedy book How to Punch a Monkey. Marc Maron said on WTF that Scolaro “might be the funniest fuckin person alive.” Jeff Ross said he has never seen him fail to win over a crowd. Nikki Glaser called his command of a joke influential to her own career.

Brian Scolaro’s Comedy Style

Scolaro does original, old-school stand-up with sharp timing and stage command — observational humor drawn from personal experience, family, and everyday life, delivered with a Brooklyn energy that is both relatable and precise. The acting career and the stand-up career have always coexisted and fed each other: the character work in television gives him a wide range on stage, while the stand-up keeps his timing honest.
