Gary Vider: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Gary Vider?
Gary Vider is a New York City-based comedian whose dry, subtle delivery took him all the way to the finals on Season 10 of America’s Got Talent — the same season that featured Drew Lynch, who finished in second place. He has appeared on Conan and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. His jokes have been published in the New York Times and Time Out NY. Esquire named him a “Comic to Watch.” He won the 2014 Carolines on Broadway March Madness competition, beating out 63 other young comedians. He released his debut comedy album Vider Las Vegas in 2020.
In 2024 he released his stand-up special It Could Be Worse on YouTube and launched #1 Dad, a limited true crime/comedy podcast series produced by iHeartMedia, Will Ferrell’s Big Money Player Network, and Radio Point. The podcast explores the story of his father, Manny Vider, a con man whose schemes and lies spanned over four decades — including an incident where young Gary posed as a Sports Illustrated for Kids interviewer and his father posed as the SI photographer, gaining access to Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Bill Murray. Gary hasn’t seen his father in over twenty years and used the podcast as a vehicle to uncover the truth before attempting to meet him face to face. The podcast became a top 100 podcast on Spotify.
Gary Vider’s Comedy Style
Vider’s comedy is dry, precise, and built on perfectly timed pauses — a style that looks effortless and is extremely difficult to execute at a high level. His material stacks small, relatable observations before flipping them with a quiet, sharp tag. The America’s Got Talent finals run demonstrated that deadpan works for a mass audience when the writing is strong enough, which is the whole argument for his approach to the craft.
