Jenny Tian: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch

Who is Jenny Tian?

Jenny Tian (born Jeanne Tian on 24 July 1995) was born in Finland to Chinese parents and moved to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, at age three and a half. She graduated from the University of New South Wales with double bachelor’s degrees in arts and commerce and was inspired to pursue stand-up after seeing Ronny Chieng perform at her university. She started performing at age fifteen and began building a significant online following during the pandemic.

Her debut solo show Picture This (2023) sold out across Australia’s east coast and was released as a YouTube special that has accumulated over 900,000 views. She performed Chinese Australian: A Tale of Internet Fame at the 2024 Wellington Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festival. She secured spots on the lineup for both the 2024 and 2025 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Galas. She appeared as a cast member on Season 2 of Taskmaster Australia and on Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee. She sold out the Edinburgh Fringe in 2025. She has performed at the Broadway Comedy Club in New York, the Den Theatre in Chicago, and the Sydney Opera House (February 2026). She toured the United States supporting Ronny Chieng. She has over one million followers across her online platforms and hosts the podcast The Parasocial Social Club with Kevin Jin. Her 2026 Australian show When Life Gives You Oranges is playing the Adelaide Fringe.

Jenny Tian’s Comedy Style

Tian’s comedy is sharp, self-aware, and intercultural — drawing from her experience as a Chinese-Australian navigating Australian, British, and American cultural environments simultaneously. Her online presence and her live shows reflect the same sensibility: confident, economical jokes built from genuine observation, delivered with a warmth that makes cultural specificity feel universal. The Edinburgh Fringe sellout in 2025 and the Sydney Opera House booking in 2026 reflect rapid upward movement in her profile.
