Jon Fisch: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Jon Fisch?
Jon Fisch grew up in Boston, was a psychology major in college, worked as a counselor in hospitals after graduating, and discovered stand-up comedy by accident — he saw a pamphlet for a comedy workshop at a continuing education session for his counseling job, signed up, did a five-minute set at the final, and never stopped. He moved to New York City and built a career over more than two decades performing at the Comedy Cellar, Gotham Comedy Club, and clubs across the country.
He is one of only a handful of comedians who has appeared on both The Late Show with David Letterman and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He was named the New York City Capital One Audience Favorite on NBC’s Last Comic Standing Season 4. He was chosen as one of Comedy Central’s Fresh Faces of Comedy and named one of Backstage magazine’s 10 Standout Stand-Ups. He has performed at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival, the Great American Comedy Festival, and Just for Laughs Montreal. He released the stand-up album Hinged (2021) on The Laugh Button Records. He hosts the podcast Spiraling Up, which explores comedy and mental health with comedians and comedy insiders.
Jon Fisch’s Comedy Style
Fisch is a prolific monologist with universal appeal — his own description, and accurate. His material is observational and personal, focused on the idiosyncrasies of city living, relationships, and the particular texture of being a Boston-bred comedian who has spent twenty years in New York. The self-deprecation is real rather than performed: he has talked about being single for a long time, about online dating, about the gap between what he expected from life and what arrived. The counseling background is visible in his interest in mental health material and in how well he reads an audience.
