Keith Alberstadt: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch

Who is Keith Alberstadt?

Keith Alberstadt is originally from Nashville, Tennessee, graduated from Vanderbilt University, and worked in athletics at his alma mater while honing his craft at open mics around town. He eventually moved to New York City, where he quickly landed in the national spotlight. He makes the Comedy Cellar his home club and is one of the most consistently booked touring comedians in the country.

He has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and NBC’s Last Comic Standing. He was a Weekend Update freelance writer at Saturday Night Live. He has performed for U.S. military personnel stationed around the world as part of Comics on Duty, a commitment spanning over a decade. He has four comedy albums in rotation on SiriusXM Radio and Pandora; his most recent, Walk It Off, ranked in the iTunes Top Ten comedy albums. Gram Slaton, Executive Director of the Aspen Laff Festival, called him “a genius” and noted that PG-13 comedy — his register — is the hardest kind to consistently pull off, and that audiences adore him for it. Mark Ridley, owner of the Comedy Castle in Detroit, placed him in his top ten favorite comedians. He has been called one of the top performers by Comics on Duty’s Rich Davis, who described him as “extremely funny, humble, honest and a fantastic human being.”

Keith Alberstadt’s Comedy Style

Alberstadt mixes light-hearted sarcasm with Southern charm — a combination that produces clean, clever material accessible to any audience without sacrificing sharpness. The Vanderbilt background and Nashville roots are present in the way he holds a room: genuinely likable, confident without being aggressive, and capable of finding the funny in the things people notice but rarely say out loud. His Comedy Cellar sets sit comfortably alongside the edgier material of other club comics because the craft is airtight even when the content is mild.
