Kevin Ryan: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Kevin Ryan?
Kevin Ryan is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is now based in New York City. He performs stand-up every night across the New York club circuit, including the Comedy Cellar, and has built his following through consistent stage time rather than a single television moment. He is best known as the co-host of the popular podcast Are You Garbage? — a comedy podcast with a devoted following in the New York club scene and beyond.
He made his television debut on AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live. He was named one of five “Comedians to Watch in 2012” before moving to New York City. He was a finalist in the Boston Comedy Festival (2014) and won the LOL Comedy Competition at the Grand Opera House and placed as a finalist in Philly’s Phunniest Competition at Helium Comedy Club before relocating. His Instagram and TikTok following reflect a comedian whose straightforward, everyday observational humor travels well across social media.
Kevin Ryan’s Comedy Style
Ryan’s comedy is easygoing and direct — his own description of himself as having “an easy going yet straightforward point of view” is accurate and undersells it slightly. The Philadelphia background is present in a working-class bluntness that makes material about daily interactions and self-deprecating observations feel earned rather than performed. The Are You Garbage? podcast reflects the same sensibility: two guys from Philadelphia talking about comedy without pretension.
