Molly Kearney: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Molly Kearney?
Molly Kearney grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, got their start in stand-up comedy on Put-in-Bay Island in Lake Erie, earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre from the University of Dayton, spent years performing at The Lincoln Lodge in Chicago — the nation’s longest-running independent stand-up showcase — and was selected for Comedy Central’s Up Next showcase in 2019 following a nationwide search. In 2022, they joined the cast of Saturday Night Live as a featured player for Season 48, becoming the first openly nonbinary cast member in the show’s 47-year history at that point.
They appeared on SNL for two seasons alongside Marcello Hernandez, Devon Walker, and Michael Longfellow before departing ahead of Season 50 in 2024, posting a warm farewell on social media and expressing genuine gratitude. Their acting credits include Amazon’s A League of Their Own as Fern Dannely, and Disney+’s The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. They joined the cast of the CBS workplace comedy DMV in 2025. They use they/them pronouns.
Molly Kearney’s Comedy Style
Kearney is a stand-up comedian first — the SNL tenure was the visibility moment, but the years of club work in Chicago and the comedy festival circuit before that are where the craft was built. Their comedy is personal and direct, rooted in identity, self-observation, and the specific experience of existing in spaces that were not necessarily designed with them in mind. The Lincoln Lodge background shows up in their material: independent showcase comedy rewards comics who have something specific to say and a precise way of saying it.
