Olivia Flood-Wylie: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Olivia Flood-Wylie?
Olivia Flood-Wylie is a Los Angeles-born comedian, writer, actor, and director who grew up in Beverly Hills. After a miserable college experience (save the comedy club), she studied abroad in Maastricht, Netherlands, and then took an eight-week improv class at Boom Chicago in Amsterdam — a discovery that set the direction for her career. She spent three years in Amsterdam as house comedian at The Comedy Embassy and was named a “2020 One to Watch” by Funny Women. She holds an Irish passport.
She debuted her first hour-long stand-up special, Slowpoke, at the Boom Chicago Comedy Festival in 2021, and her second hour special, Half and Half, in February 2023. She has taught improv at Boom Chicago, one of the world’s most respected improv theaters, and was a founding member of Grover, the theater’s first Harold team, and CLOGS, their house short-form team. She is an actor and writer with the sketch group That’s Hollywood, Baby. She has appeared on podcasts including Jimmy Pardo’s Never Not Funny and Janet Varney’s JV Club. She performed at the 2024 Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin. She performs at the Comedy Cellar when in New York.
Olivia Flood-Wylie’s Comedy Style
Flood-Wylie is a confidently anxious comedian — her own Instagram description — whose material draws on the specific experience of an American who chose to leave, lived abroad for years, and returned with a perspective that doesn’t quite fit anywhere. Two full-length hour specials by 2023 reflect a comedian who builds work with ambition and follow-through, and the Boom Chicago background gives her improvisational fluency that shows up in her stand-up.
