Ray Ellin: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Ray Ellin?
Ray Ellin is a New York City-based comedian, television host, producer, actor, writer, and filmmaker who started performing stand-up as a teenager. He was named one of New York’s “Best Emerging Artists” in 2009 and received a Proclamation from the City of New York for his contributions to comedy. Back Stage magazine named him one of the “Ten Standout Stand-Ups Worth Watching.”
He was the executive producer and host of LateNet with Ray Ellin, the first comedy/variety show to simultaneously combine in-studio and live interactive online audiences, featuring guests including Chevy Chase, Hank Azaria, Leonard Nimoy, Paul Shaffer, and Fran Drescher. He was the host of the relaunched Gong Show Live, a revival of the 1970s talent competition. He was an executive producer of Comedy Central’s This Week at the Comedy Cellar across its three seasons. He produced, directed, and wrote the film The Latin Legends of Comedy, which was distributed by Twentieth Century Fox and ranked third in per-screen average during its limited theatrical release. He was the host and writer of the syndicated television shows The Movie Loft, New York Now, Premium TV, and BrainFuel TV. He co-created the animated series La Familia featuring John Leguizamo. He has been profiled on Dateline NBC, where it was discovered that his blood pressure actually drops right before he goes on stage. He owns and operates Aruba Ray’s Comedy Club on the island of Aruba, which has been rated the number one nightlife activity and best show on TripAdvisor for over twelve consecutive years. He hosts the podcast Wild Nights on the Prairie. He is a regular performer and host at the NY Comedy Club and Comedy Cellar.
Ray Ellin’s Comedy Style
Ellin is a comedian and host who thrives on improvisation and crowd interaction — the blood pressure detail from Dateline is the best available evidence of someone who is genuinely in their element on stage. His production background and his ownership of Aruba Ray’s reflect someone who has built a full comedy operation around his stand-up rather than treating it as separate from the business side.
