Richie Redding: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Richie Redding?
Richie Redding holds a degree in political science from the University of Pennsylvania. He left the corporate world to pursue stand-up comedy, beginning in urban rooms and burlesque shows — an unlikely trajectory for an Ivy League graduate that has since become central to his stage identity. He moved to Jersey City in 2010 and became a regular at New York’s top comedy clubs. He has over twenty years of professional stand-up experience.
His stand-up has been seen on HBO, AXS TV, Amazon Prime Video, Fox, NBC, Gotham Comedy Live, Kevin Hart’s LOL Network, Sirius XM, Just for Laughs Montreal, and Food Network. In 2012 he was selected to perform in Walter Latham’s Comedy After Dark and became a regular on HOT 97 FM. In 2013 he beat out 32 comedians from around the world to win the Bermuda International Comedy Competition. He was selected for HBO’s Comedy Festival as part of the Lucky 21 Show. He has toured massive arenas including Barclays Center and Staples Center with Katt Williams, and toured with the USO to entertain U.S. troops overseas. He served as a comedian, writer, and producer on TBS’s Surviving Bear Grylls. His crowd-work skills have earned him warmup jobs for Netflix specials and network talk shows. He also operates Funnier Than You Are, a levity consulting and corporate comedy company, and hosts corporate events and keynotes.
Richie Redding’s Comedy Style
Redding is edgy, high-energy, and autobiographical — his material is built from a lifetime of genuinely ridiculous true stories that he frames as things that can only happen to a recovering alcoholic Ivy Leaguer living in Jersey City. The gap between his credentials and his experiences is the engine of his act, and it works because both halves are real.
