Who is Ron Funches?

Ron Funches was born in Carson, California in 1983, started doing stand-up comedy in Portland, Oregon, and built a career on a foundation that looks almost paradoxically simple from the outside: he is one of the warmest performers working in comedy, and the warmth is completely genuine. That is harder to sustain than it sounds in a form that rewards cynicism.

He broke through on NBC’s Undateable, which ran for three seasons, and has since accumulated a remarkable range of credits across television, film, and voice work. His television appearances include The Goldbergs, Black-ish, New Girl, Transparent, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Loot on Apple TV+. He appears in Season 4 of Peacock’s The Traitors in 2026. As a voice actor, he has played Cooper in DreamWorks’ Trolls franchise, King Shark in DC’s Harley Quinn, and contributed to Inside Out 2, Bob’s Burgers, Adventure Time, Final Space, and The Great North. His film credits include Get Hard alongside Will Ferrell and 6 Underground.

As a writer, he has contributed to The Eric Andre Show and Kroll Show. His stand-up special Giggle Fit aired on Comedy Central. He shot a new special at The Den in Chicago in October 2025. He hosts the motivational podcast Gettin’ Better with Ron Funches. He volunteers regularly for School on Wheels and has done philanthropic work with NEXT for Autism.

Ron Funches’s Comedy Style

Funches performs in a mode that is genuinely his own. The mellow voice, the unhurried delivery, the material that covers fatherhood, wellness, pro wrestling, video games, and an unabashed optimism about being alive — none of it feels like a persona. He has built a following because people can feel that he means it, and meaning it in stand-up comedy is not as common as it should be.

His crowd work is kind and curious rather than predatory, which creates a room where the audience relaxes into the set rather than bracing for it. The result is comedy that surprises you with how smart it is because it never announces that it is going to be smart.
