Sophie Buddle: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Sophie Buddle?
Sophie Buddle is originally from Ottawa, Canada, started performing stand-up at age fifteen, and recorded her first comedy album at twenty-two. She is a two-time runner-up in SiriusXM Canada’s Top Comic competition. In 2020, she won the Juno Award for Comedy Album of the Year for her 2019 album A Lil Bit of Buddle — becoming the first woman to win the award as a solo stand-up comedian.
She has performed at Just for Laughs Montreal’s All Access showcase, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the Halifax Comedy Festival, the Moontower Comedy Festival (three times), and the Lil Rhody Laugh Riot. She appeared on Kevin Hart’s LOL Network and The Late Late Show with James Corden. She was named one of Vulture’s Comedians You Should and Will Know in 2023. She was a writer for CBS’s late-night show After Midnight hosted by Taylor Tomlinson, alongside whom she also toured extensively as a feature act. She released her comedy special Smile, Baby in 2023. She co-hosts the podcast Obsessed with her fiancé, comedian Mayce Galoni. She is based in Los Angeles and has 151,000 Instagram followers.
Sophie Buddle’s Comedy Style
Buddle’s comedy is intimate and precisely written — candid, diary-level material delivered with breezy confidence and sharp crowd work, then snapping back into meticulously crafted bits. Her fifteen-year career trajectory from Ottawa teenager to Juno Award winner to After Midnight staff writer reflects consistent upward movement built on volume and craft rather than a single viral moment. The Juno win as the first solo female winner is meaningful context: she earned it in a field where women historically haven’t been given the same runway.
