Stavros Halkias: Bio, Comedy Style, and Where to Watch
Who is Stavros Halkias?
Stavros Halkias was born in Baltimore to Greek immigrant parents — his mother Macedonian, his father an Athenian contractor — and grew up being bullied for his weight. He played football at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County, left a few credits short of graduating, and started doing comedy at open mics while still in school. In 2012, he was named Baltimore’s New Comedian of the Year. A few years later he was in New York.
His debut special, Live at the Lodge Room, reached a million views in its first four days on YouTube and has since passed seven million. His Netflix special Fat Rascal followed in December 2023. He co-stars in the Netflix comedy series Tires alongside Shane Gillis, which was renewed for a third season. He has appeared in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia (premiered at the Venice Film Festival) and in A24’s Tony, a film about Anthony Bourdain. His podcast Stavvy’s World debuted at number three on the iTunes comedy charts. His 2026 Dreamboat Tour includes a sold-out date at Radio City Music Hall.
GQ identified him as being at the front of a new wave of comedians. Vulture named him a Comedian You Should and Will Know. The trajectory has been steep and still climbing.
Stavros Halkias’s Comedy Style
Halkias is one of the best crowd workers in comedy right now, full stop. He has a gift for finding the specific funny thing about whoever is sitting in front of him and building something real out of it in the moment. His 2023 crowd-work-only special Four Nights in NYC demonstrated what he can do when given a room and permission to roam.
His solo material combines personal confession with cultural observation — his Greek immigrant background, his complicated relationship with his own body, his genuine curiosity about the people he meets. He is likable without softening anything. The result is comedy that feels like it is coming from an actual person rather than a persona.
